A year in the woods
You arrive at a derelict cabin in early spring with a few tools and a deed. By the time the snow comes you need a sound roof, dry wood stacked high and food put by.
Forage, farm, fish, hunt, mine and trade, and above all make things. Every attempt at a craft makes you a little better at it, and every room you mend makes the cabin warmer.

Inside, by the fire
When a storm settles in, the cabin is where the work is.
- Mend the cabin room by room. Patch the roof, chink the walls, lay a floor, add a bedroom, a workshop, a cellar.
- Learn by doing. Carving, mending, brewing, the soup pot, forging, fiddle tunes: each is a small hands-on task you get better at.
- Mind the cold. Warmth, hunger and the weather matter. A winter night with the fire out is dangerous.
Millbrook, down the road
The village has a store, a smithy, an inn and a dozen neighbours with their own stories. Trade what you make, learn what they know, and find out why the last two settlers out your way didn't see spring.
